Join Us
If you are looking at joining a medium-sized choir with a diverse repertoire, Global Voices is for you. We welcome new members.
Events during the year include:
- Weekly rehearsals (school terms only)
- An annual “residential” in which the choir gets together to socialise and learn new music
- Several performances during each year
- There may be occasions (for example before a performance) when extra rehearsals are required.
To keep our community going smoothly, members also get involved in activities such as fundraising, joining the committee, promoting the choir and its performances, and supporting the organisation of events.
Rehearsals
Practices are held in the St Marks Church Hall, Vincent Terrace, Opawa on Wednesday night 7.30 to 9.30 pm during school term time.
These sessions are usually a combination of vocal warm-ups and exercises followed by learning and polishing our repertoire.
The Joining Process
The choir usually has 2-3 intakes a year, depending on availability of spaces and balance between the parts. The usual process for joining is:
- potential new members have a voice check with our MD Helen Charlton
- participate in regular rehearsals for 4-5 weeks before being auditioned with the support of other members using one of the songs you have learned in this time
- You are free to come along and listen for a night before starting the joining process. Contact us to arrange a suitable date.
Attendance
A minimum of a 70% attendance rate is required for rehearsals to ensure continuity for the group.
Subscription
The annual subscription is $240 per year or $60 per term. People in the process of joining pay a casual rate of $5 a session until they have been auditioned and become full members.
